Parolee Palace Providing the second chance Luke Wegner & Victoria Scott
Focus of the Business The focus of “Parole Palace” is a not for profit group home in which we ensure that those criminals who were sentenced to death, but then having amnesty granted, have a safe place to live, work, and even earn degrees such as a GED or college degree. The goal is to give those a second chance when one is granted. It is not easy by any means to rebuild a life that has been completely shattered.
Focus Cont’d “Parolee Palace” will be a gated community, group home style where the tenants can live on their own but still interact with the others in their commune and work for a living in the outside community to earn their wages and pay for the services in which they receive. Another goal of this community within a community is to as closely simulate the life these parolees once knew. Also, the mental health of residents will be monitored and improved throughout their stay by means of counselors and group sessions.
We hope to have our business up and running by January 2014. In thousands
Reasoning for “Parolee Palace” Parolee Palace is a must for those who have escaped death in prison because being accepted back into everyday society is a sometimes insurmountable task. Giving these former convicts a place to work and live greatly increases the likelihood that they will not return to the prison system for any reason considering they are closely monitored in and outside of Parolee Palace. Our business will work in conjunction with Amnesty International to provide an immediate home for those pardoned from death row.
Expected Results Parolee Palace aims to give those given a second chance a means to act on such an extraordinary opportunity. Granting parole to someone after becoming so accustomed to a prison lifestyle almost instantly sets them up to fail due to the fact that life on the outside of prison walls will never stop. Parolee Palace provides a safe environment to become much more quickly acclimated with the world. 301 post-conviction exonerations have taken place in the United States since 1989. These citizens need a place to go.
In Virginia “If his conviction has been vacated, a wrongfully convicted person is entitled to 90% of the VA per capita personal income for each year of incarceration plus a tuition award worth $10,000 in the VA community college system. However, claimant may not have plead guilty, unless he/she was charged with a capital offense.” 23 states do not have compensation laws http://www.innocenceproject.org/news/LawViewstate1.php?state=va
