  2. ELECTRON HOLE PAIR GENERATION • When an electron jumps to the conduction band, a vacancy is left in the valence band within the crystal. For every electron raised to the conduction band by external energy, there is one hole left in the valence band.

  3. RECOMBINATION • When a conduction-band electron loses energy and falls back into a hole in the valence band

  4. DRIFT CURRENT • When an external electric field is applied across an intrinsic semiconductor, the current conduct trough the semiconductor is due to both free electron and holes. The free electrons available in the conduction band start drifting toward the positive terminal, where the holes start drifting towards the negative terminal.

  5. DIFFUSION CURRENT • The hole and electrons then tend to move from region of higher concentration to the region of lower concentration
