  3. Breathing • Involves the diaphragm • When diaphragm contracts, chest cavity expands, air comes in • When the diaphragm relaxes, chest cavity becomes smaller, air goes out • Due to pressure differences inside and outside the body

  4. Respiratory System - Alveoli • Gas exchange takes place in the capillaries of the lungs called the alveoli. • responsible for the exchange of gasses (oxygen and carbon dioxide) in the body.
