The topic sentence introduces the main idea of a paragraph. • Although most people believe that man’s best friend is a dog, I think it should be a cat. • Cats have been kept as pets since the time of the Pharaohs. They are kept in homes all over the world. We can see that cats have been the favorites of man for hundreds of years. I believe cats are well liked because they are gentle, friendly, and easy to take care of. How to Build a Paragraph

Assignment • Now that we have talked about what we need to write a good paragraph, use a graphic organizer to brainstorm a list of ideas of things that interest you. • Once you have brainstormed, pick three of your interests from your list that you feel you could write a good paragraph on and write a GOOD topic sentence for each one.
