  2. The challenge • Research is the responsibility of researchers not administrators • Researchers at the University of Copenhagen are among the best researchers in the world – we know that • - null-researchers?

  3. Most researchers (and others) gets only one original idea - normally before they are 30 years old: The trick is to reproduce it in a lifetime.

The University is often compared to a supertanker: it takes a while to redirect it. • The Research Information System is supposed to help finding the right direction through • making priorities on an informed background • Pointing out weaknesses and strenghts in research • Identifying potential • Plus a number of other buzzwords from NPM

  5. In reality the university is more like a big number of tugs puling the university-vessel in all directions. • Establish the argument for a common research informations system from the ground level • Top-down – bottom-up structure • Incitaments • Identify common interests

  6. The Research Informations system is not a library system • Full integration with existing systems and webstructure • Avoid redundancy • Recycling of informations • Annual ”research tax form”

  7. A quick SWOT • The University act 2003 – Dissemination as a third main purposse of the university • Barcelona goals • Experiences and expectations of the younger scientists • The existing publication base proved to be inefficient
