  2. What is IBS • any combination of common disturbances of the bowel, as diarrhea or constipation, occurring with abdominal pain, sometimes accompanied by psychological stress.

  3. About the syndrome • There is no actual cure for IBS • There are treatments that attempt to relieve the symptoms. • Including changing diet • medication and therapy • Patient education and good relationship with doctor

  4. Common irritants • Milk • red meat • Poultry dark meat and skin • Dairy products • Egg yolks • French fries • Onion rings • Fried chicken • Corn dogs

  5. What can a person with IBS do? • Eat a lot of organic foods • Chew food thoroughly • Eat small portions, and eat frequently • Avoid large amounts of food • Avoid chewing gum • Drink a lot of water

  6. What they can eat to help • White bread • Toasted plain bagels • Pretzels • Plain baked potatoes • Plain white rice • Arrowrotcrackers

  7. Some statistics • 75% of the people with it are woman • Up to 20% of Americans have symptoms • 10-20% percent of the worlds population have symptoms of it
