  1. Poplar Hill on His Lordship’s Kindness Presents: Hands on History Day: Gizmos and Gadgets May 22nd 10am-4pm How did people live before the days of electricity, telephones, or cars? Come see historical machines and tools in action and try some out for yourself! Meet a carriage maker and try out some of his tools. Watch a farrier shoe a horse and see a sidesaddle demonstration. Cook over an open fire. Learn to spin wool into yarn on a spinning wheel and weave it into cloth on a 200 year old barn loom. Watch a demonstration of historic firearms. There’s something for everyone at Hands on History Day! Carriage House activities 10-noon; Historic House Activities noon-4pm Bring a picnic lunch and stay for the whole day. Canned drinks and bottled water will be for sale. Activities will be held rain or shine. Poplar Hill on His Lordship’s Kindness is a National Historic Landmark on 7606 Woodyard Rd in Clinton, MD near Andrews AFB. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children ages 3 -18. Children under 3 are free. Can’t make it to Hands on History Day? Come by for a house tour! Tours are from 10-4 Thursdays and Fridays, 1-4 on Sundays.
