  1. ThermoSuit System University of Rhode Island BME 482 Kasey Tipping

  2. Overview • What it is? • How it works? • What it does? • Who it helps? • Real Life Story

  3. What Is A ThermoSuit Induces Therapeutic Hypothermia Rapid, Non-invasive Key Component of Post-Resuscitation

  4. How Does the ThermoSuit work? Pump Touch Screen The ThermoSuit

  5. What does the ThermoSuit do? • Effectively shortens the time it takes to cool the body • Brings the body’s temperature between 89.6-93.2 degrees F • This will slow down the organs in the body • By slowing down the organs the body will require less oxygen to function

  6. Who does the ThermoSuit help? • The effects of the ThermoSuit are ideal for patients who are suffering from a heart attack, stroke, or cardiac arrest • These patients face brain damage due to the lack of oxygen entering their body • By cooling the body, it will require less oxygen and therefore lower the rate of brain damage

  7. Real Life Situation On November 11, 2008, Cynthia Crawford, 57, suffered from congestive heart failure She was rushed to the hospital and placed into the ThermoSuit; her body was cooled within 20 to 40 minutes She woke up in the intensive care unit; instead of long-term-care facility
