  2. Curriculum Provision and Choices at Key Stage 4 • Compulsory core curriculum Plus • Option Choice • Remember: your decisions may • influence your choices or success later!

  3. In allschools the following are compulsory: • English Language • Mathematics • Science • PE • non exam Citizenship

  4. As a Catholic school we also study 10% Religious Education • As a Language College we also study Modern Foreign Languages (French or Spanish or Italian) • We also do English Literature, as it underpins Language and supports other subjects

  5. So CJM Core Subjects are: • RE • Modern Foreign Language • English Language • English Literature • Mathematics • Science • PE • plus non exam PSHCE

  6. Changes to the Performance Tables • A new system will be implemented from the academic year 2015-16. • The following indicators will be published: • Progress 8: The average of all students’ progress across 8 subjects at GCSE – English, Maths, 3 EBacc subjects, 3 ‘high value qualifications’, which could include vocational courses • Attainment 8: The school’s average grade across the same suite of 8 subjects as Progress 8 • The percentage of pupils achieving a C or above in English and Maths • The EBacc SO MORE IS NOT BETTER

  7. A level choices are based on the achievements at GCSE. • More is not necessarily better. This is why we feel this year we need to consider Triple Science as part of the option system. • It is important to recognise that 8 high grades are better than 10 lower ones. SO MORE IS NOT BETTER

  8. Choices • Graphics • History • Music • Triple Science • Art • Business Studies • Drama • Food Technology • Geography Students will also be asked to make a reserve choice

  9. Alternative choices for a small cohort of girls : • CoPE • Extended Core

  10. What do I do next? • Read the booklet. • Reflect on what you want to achieve in the long term, including university and careers. • Think about what choices might suit you best. • You could consider your interests and strengths. • Talk to staff and your parents about your choices. BUT REMEMBER: MORE IS NOT BETTER
