  5. Global warming is mainly the result of CO2 levels rising in the Earth’s atmosphere. Global Warming • CO2 level in the atmosphere has reached to almost 400 ppm. • The upper safety limit for atmospheric CO2 is 350 parts per million (ppm). • Atmospheric CO2 levels have stayed higher than 350ppm since early 1988. 7. Fossil fuel consumption has a significant role in global warming. • Oil consumption is responsible for 45% of CO2 emissions. • More than half of the total oil consumption is used in transport. Fossil Fuel Consumption • Coal, Oil, Natural gas is used for electricity generation. • We use coal, oil, natural gas, andelectricity in industry, building space heating and the like. • All these contribute to CO2 emissions. 18. Existing Situation is Not Sustainable • EU has already committed to reduce green house gas emissions by at least %20 by 2020. • This is known as 20 20 20 by 2020 EU climate action. • There are many programs that will help to achieve this target mainly by using energy more efficiently and switching renewable energy sources. • Intelligent Energy Europe is one of the main EU sustainable energy programs.
