  1. Lesson 26 Reclassification of Hadith

  2. Reclassification of Hadith • Reclassification of Hadith means referring a Hadith to its original sources, where it was narrated according to the chain of transmission, and then showing its rank when necessary.

  3. There are three forms of reclassification: • The general reclassification in which the narrator’s name is mentioned as well as the source collection

  4. b) The intermediate reclassification in which the names of the chain of narrators are mentioned, the source collection, the chapter where the Hadith is found, and the rank of the Hadith

  5. c) The detailed reclassification of the Hadith, all its chains of narration, as well as criticizing all narrations and ranking them.

  6. The Methods of Reclassification • a) By the Companion narrating the Hadith: via searching the chains of transmission (Musnads), Hadith lexicons and Al-Atraf (indicesof Musnads which includes only parts of the Hadiths’ texts)

  7. b) By the first word of the Hadith by searching books whose Hadith texts are classified alphabetically such as Al-Jami` As-Saghir by As-Siyutiyy, or indices of different Hadith books, such as Muftah As-Sahihayn by At-Tuqadi, and other indices by Muhammad Fouad Abdul-Baqi, etc.

  8. c) By searching a distinguishing word in the text of the Hadith, by searching Al-Mu`jam Al-Mufassar Li Alfadh Al-Hadith An-Nabawi (The Indexed Dictionary of Prophetic Hadith Words) by Vensenk which is an index of the six books, Muwatta’ Malik, Musnad Ahmad and At-Tirmidhi.

  9. d) By searching for the subject of the Hadith in the index of subjects such as Miftah Kunuz As-Sunnah by Vensenk, translated to Arabic by Muhammad Fouad Abdul-Baqi.

  10. e) By searching computer databases by choosing a distinguishing word, subject, or narrator of the Hadith
