We are now discussing the “Fruit of the Spirit” • Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

We are now discussing the “Fruit of the Spirit” • Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. • 3. The Fruit of the Spirit is… • a. A PRODUCT of a Spiritual Life! • b. We are to Live focused on Spiritual things, therefore we should be producing this “fruit”. Matthew 7:15-20, John 15:1-8 • c. Nine attributes: Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness & Self-Control

THAYER - patience, forbearance, slowness in avenging wrongs; especially shown in bearing troubles and ills • 4. VINE - forbearance, patience; it is the quality of self-restraint in the face of provocation which does not hastily retaliate or promptly punish • 5. TRENCH - is the self restraint which does not hastily retaliate a wrong, This is opposed to wrath and revenge

Webster’s - manifesting forbearance under provocation or strain • 2. Synonyms - Patience, endurance, tolerance, lack of complaint

Old Testament • Exodus 34:6 - And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, • Numbers 14:18 - ‘The LORD is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.’ • Pslam 86:15 - But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

New Testament • Romans 2:4 - …do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? • 2 Peter 3:15 - and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation - as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, • 1 Timothy 1:16 - However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.

Christian Characteristic • Colossians 3:12 - Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering • Galatians 5:22 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

With Brethren • Ephesians 4:2 - with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

With those in the world • 1 Thessalonians 5:14 - … we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. • 1 Corinthians 13:4 - Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; Mark 12:31

In Teaching the Gospel • 2 Timothy 4:2 - Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. • 2 Corinthians 6:6 - But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God…by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,

Paul - A man who was attacked repeatedly for the cause of Christ • 2 Timothy 3:10 - But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance,

What common elements do we see in the lives of Christ, Prophets & Paul? • HUMILITY!!!Phil. 2:5-8, Eph 4:1-2 Phil 2:5-8 - Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,…taking the form of a bondservant,…He humbled Himself … Eph 4:1-2 - I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 1 Tim 1:15 - Paul states that he is the “chief” sinner

Romans 10:1- Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. The Prophets of the Old Testament…Numerous!!

What common elements do we see in the lives of Christ, Prophets & Paul? • HUMILITY!!!Phil. 2:5-8, Eph 4:1-2 • Love for their Brethren & fellow manJohn 3:16, Romans 10:1 • Spiritual Focus & Resolve to Act GodlyJohn 9:4, 1 Cor 9:16 John 9:4- I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 1 Cor 9:16 - For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!

So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

It takes these Elements / Character attributes to be Longsuffering! • 4. If we are not Longsuffering, then we most likely have a problem in our lives with these elements!! • 5. 2 Cor 13:5 - Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.

We MUST watch our Example - • Matthew 5:16- "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Some advocate that we must be Longsuffering of those in Sin. • a. “You believe & act as you want, and we’ll believe & act as we want” • b. “We all need to be longsuffering of each other sins” • c. Big Difference btw these statements and teaching with longsuffering!

There is NOT one Bible passage teaching the tolerance of SIN!! • Matthew 18:15-17 - If sin is Observed…Address it! • John 4:16 - Jesus addressed the woman’s sin! • Acts 15 - Paul & Barnabas addressed False Teaching • Acts 18:24-28 - Aquila & Priscilla addressed False Teaching • Acts 8:14-24 - Peter addressed Simons’ sin • Galatians 2:11-21 - Paul addressed Peter & Barnabas’ Sin
