  2. MAP Mission Statement Our mission is to provide responsible drinking strategies and accurate alcohol use norms to empower the UH Mānoa campus community to maintain a healthy lifestyle and achieve college success.

  3. UH Manoa Demographics • Located in Honolulu, Hawaii • Research I Institution • Undergrads: 14,257 • Graduates: 5,912 • Male to Female ratio: 44:56 • Students living on-campus: 3,500

  4. Two major social norms campaigns are the focus of the Manoa Alcohol Project • Poster are printed and distributed throughout campus and within residence halls • Over 5000 posters distributed per year

  5. The Learn Something New Campaign produces a series of 3-6 brightly colored posters, with eye-catching graphics and “new” facts. This campaign gets students’ attention to stop and read the odd and interesting facts and learn about alcohol use norms on campus.

  7. The MAP Your Strategy Campaign is a 3-poster series campaign that aims to promote responsible drinking behaviors while helping you “map your strategy” to reach your health and wellness and academic goals.

Impact of MAP Poster Campaigns • I think that the Manoa Alcohol Project Poster Campaigns: “Learn Something New” and “Map Your Strategy” provide interesting and helpful alcohol use information for the UHM Campus community. • Agree (64%) • Disagree (10%) • No opinion/Didn’t see campaigns (26%) (MAP Survey, 2011)

  10. Containing alcohol and other health-related topics. • 3 issues produced each semester, 3000 distributed in bathroom stalls throughout campus buildings and residence halls

The MAP Network • Social Media Tools: • MAP uses networking tools to advertise campaigns and events (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr) • Collaboration: • The Lokahi peer education program incorporates MAP data into its classroom presentations • BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) program, which provides individual assessment based on UHM campus norms manoaalcoholproject.org facebook.com/UHMAP
