    1. Benton Park School New Parent’s Evening Monday 29th June 2009 7.00 p.m.

    2. New Year 7 Start date; Friday 4th September 2009 at 8.30 a.m. Years 8-11 start;- Monday 7th September 2009

    3. There will be 232 in the Year Group. They will be in 8 mixed ability Form Groups and 8 Teaching Sets based on information from Primary Schools.

    4. This year we have received students from the following Primary Schools. Calverley C of E, Calverley Parkside, Farsley Farfield, Greengates, Idle C of E, Newlaithes, Our Lady and St. Brendans,Pudsey Bolton Royd Queensway, Rawdon Littlemoor, Rawdon St Peters, Rufford Park, St. Margarets, Tranmere Park Thackley, Wellington, West End, Westbrook, and Westfield.

    5. Buses All students who come to school on a bus will require a half fare bus pass. These are available from the Post Office.

    6. School Buses Morning Service The L25 and L27 leave Rodley at around 7.40 a.m. and travel through Calverley, Greengates and Apperley Bridge to school. The L21 services Thackley, Idle and arrives at Greengates around 7.55 a.m.

    7. School Buses Afternoon Service The L21, L25 and L27 leave the school bus park at 2.55 p.m. each day. The 747 service bus travels down to Greengates for those who miss the school specials.

    8. All parents/carers should have received; A prospectus. Last year’s examination results A uniform list. A Welcome Booklet The telephone number of our special transfer helpline. 0777 33 717 44 Dates when staff will be in school to deal with problems during the summer holidays.

    9. Induction to Benton Park School To date all 232 new entrants have been seen at least once but in 200 cases three times in their home Primary School as preparation for transfer in September 2009

    10. Induction to Benton Park School Some pupils have been part of the transfer TAG group. These pupils have made a number of visits to the school.

    11. Induction to Benton Park School All new students will be given the chance to name friends who they would like to be with in their Registration/Form Group.

    12. Transition Days Tuesday 30th June 2009 Queensway and Calverley C of E visit Benton Park Wednesday 1st July 2009 Westfield visit Benton Park Thursday 2nd July 2009 Rawdon Littlemoor visit Benton Park Friday 3rd July 2009 Rufford Park and those schools where there are only a small number of children transferring. Monday 6th July 2009 Rawdon St. Peters and Calverley Parkside visit Benton Park. Monday 13th July 2009 Catch up visits 9 a.m. until 12.00

    13. The Year 7 Curriculum All students do exactly the same subjects with the exception of French and Spanish. Half the year do French and half Spanish. Unless there are exceptional circumstances we do not give a choice. Where a parent requests a language it may not be possible to keep friends together.

    14. Setting Technology and Science sets are mixed ability. PSHCE groups are form group based All other sets are based on Key Stage 2 performance.

    15. Additional or Health Needs Please make Mrs O’Grady, Mrs Mawson or Mr Hoban aware of any particular circumstances which you think may affect your child in school.

    16. Pupils who are on the waiting list. Please make Mrs Mawson or Mr Hoban aware if you are on our waiting list or are appealing for a place in September 2009.

    17. School Uniform+ PC Sports, Frank Harrisons and Rawcliffes have school uniform displays and sales in the entrance hall this evening.

    18. EducationTimeline Your son/daughter will have a Key Stage 3 assessment in 2012 They will do GCSEs or similar in June 2014. A levels or similar will be in June 2016 and by June 2019 they could have their first Degree!
