Iraq has 9 fields that are considered “super giants” (over 5 billion bbls) as well as 22 known “giant” fields (over 1 billion bbls). According to independent consultants, the cluster of super-giant fields of southeastern Iraq forms the largest known concentration of such fields in the world and accounts for 70 to 80 percent of the country’s proven oil reserves. An estimated 20 percent of oil reserves are in the north of Iraq, near Kirkuk, Mosul and Khanaqin. Source: EIA

  22. Customs Formalities Iraqi Levy Exemption To avoid any delay/detention of the trucks at any of the entry borders of Iraq, whether in the south, north, west or/and east the original document of Iraqi levy exemption approved by the related Iraqi Ministries should be available at Iraqi entry border customs office before the arrival of the trucks to any of the borders. Truckers are not involved in such process and it is the consignee's agents responsibility to follow up with the Ministries and Customs Authorities. Iraqi Import Tax on Contracts Since few months ago the Tax Authorities have their own representatives at the borders to collect the income tax deposit. This Import Tax authorizes the Tax Department to collect an income tax deposit on all contracts. If the cargoes are exempted from taxation they require a separate emption letter from the Tax Authorities confirming that the cargoes are exempted from income tax deposit.
