Review of Maryland’s Waivers • Maryland has eight operating home and community-based services (HCBS) waivers. • Maryland is developing an RTC Waiver to be implemented on 10/1/08 • HCBS waivers provide support services in community settings to individuals traditionally served in long term care facilities paid for by Medicaid. 2

  3. Review of Maryland’s Waivers • There is a high demand for waiver services. • In FY09, Maryland will serve more than 20,000 individuals in waivers. • Many waivers are out of “slots” and not accepting new community applicants.

Waiver Services Registry • Community applicants have to enter the Older Adults, Living at Home, Autism, Model and TBI Waivers through the Waiver Services Registry. • The Waiver Services Registry is a list of people who are interested in receiving waiver services. • Individuals may place themselves on the Registry by calling a toll-free number (OAW, LAH, AUT) or calling the Department or its designee (Model, TBI). • Individuals can find out their place (or number) on the Registry by calling the Registry and providing their SSN. 5

  6. Waiver Services Registry • As of June 2008, the Waiver Services Registry has: • 12,492 individuals interested in OAW • 2,114 individuals interested in LAH • 2,537 individuals interested in AUT • 16 individuals interested in Model Waiver • 47 individuals interested in TBI Waiver 6
