  1. Stephen C. O’Connell Center Prospective Employee Information

  2. Introduction • One of the largest student employers on campus • Flexible hours in a dynamic and exciting work environment • Great networking opportunities • Convenient on-campus location

  3. Who we are… • Multi-purpose facility with 14 full-time administrators • We facilitate a host of events including concerts, expos, speaking engagements and fundraisers • We are home to eight Gator sports teams

  4. We rely on our employees to transform the arena overnight from a basketball game packed with 12,000 screaming fans to a craft festival; or from a volleyball match to an informative career expo. Our employees set up and strike stages, chairs, tables, sound and lighting equipment; in addition, they greet patrons, take tickets, guard entrances and exits, and work in lobbies. They are the heart and soul of the building.

  5. Part-Time Workforce The O’Connell Center workforce is split into 3 categories of work; usher/changeover, security, and technical. You are not required to work in just one division, but rather are welcome and encouraged to try all three! By doing so you may find it easier to get work and most importantly you will gain valuable experience in all aspects of the building.

  6. Usher/Changeover • The ushers are responsible for the frontline of our facility; they are the first people to greet patrons, so courtesy is essential. As an usher you might take tickets, guide or direct a lost guest, or just answer questions. • The changeover staff is a non-technical crew that helps to change the face of the O’Connell center. They set up and take down tarps, rails, curtains, tables and more. They move bleachers in and out and clean up during and after events.

  7. Security • Our security guards are here to assist patrons, park cars, respond to guest complaints and secure the building and its property.

  8. Technical • The staff members rarely seen by our guests are the technical crews. When concerts are held here these are the workers that serve as our in-house roadies. They set-up and take down stage and concert equipment, as well as the lighting and speakers. They work closely with the band’s roadies, using state of the art equipment and learning many exciting skills. • They also do band shell shows, movies on the lawn, and PA’s around campus.

  9. Work Requirements • You must work one holiday event per semester. Events such as commencement, concerts, and basketball games can occur during holidays and we need employees to fill these crews.

  10. Work Requirements • Gator Growl is the largest student run pep rally in the nation and our staff is responsible for every aspect of the set up. It takes our staff an entire week to transform the football stadium into a full production and one night to turn it back into a stadium for the Homecoming game. Therefore, all part-time staff is required to work Gator Growl Strike.

  11. Work Requirements • You must work two shifts during spring commencements and one shift during fall commencement. Your finals might be over and you may be ready to head home, but we need your help.

  12. Conditions for Employment • Arrive to work on time, properly dressed and giving your best effort. • We are in the people business. Be pleasant and friendly but also patient and tolerant with our guests. • Help each other out. Cooperate, communicate and most importantly be a team player. • In addition, even though a concert or an amazing basketball game is taking place, your priority is to work. So if you are looking for a way to see games and concerts for free, this isn’t the job for you.

  13. Benefits of Employment • Many opportunities for advancement • Our supervisors are students just like you and many were promoted quickly by working hard and proving their leadership abilities. • The flexibility in work schedules allow you to work around tests and school. • The location of the O’Connell Center can’t be beat.

  14. Application Process • The O’Connell Center is a unique and exciting place to work. With commitment, the experience you gain and the memories you will make here will stay with you forever. So what's next? Please take the time to fill out the O’Connell Center part-time employee application.
