WHAT IS THE CAUX ROUND TABLE? • The Caux Round table (CRT) is an international network of principled business leaders working to promote a moral capitalism. The CRT advocates implementation of CRT principles for business through which principled capitalism can flourish and sustainable and socially responsible prosperity can become the foundation for a fair, free and transparent global society. • The Caux Round table also advocates implementation of CRT principles of moral government to promote justice and to provide for the safety and welfare of all citizens of the nation.
CAUX ROUND TABLE PRINCIPLES FOR MORAL GOVERNMENT • Justice and the Ends of Moral Government Kyosei • a standard of conduct that values mutuality and interdependence among living beings and their environments Human Dignity • individuals and institutions should respect the autonomy and the subjective value of individuals Naturalistic Moral Sense • individuals can rise above self-absorption and take into account the needs and feelings of others
THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE • PUBLIC POWER IS HELD IN TRUST FOR THE COMMUNITY • PUBLIC POWER BRINGS RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WELFARE OF OTHERS. THE HOLDER OF POWER SERVES AS A STEWARD.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • DISCOURSE ETHICS SHOULD GUIDE THE APPLICATION OF PUBLIC POWER • PUBLIC POWER SHALL REST ITS LEGITIMACY IN PROCESSES OF COMMUNICATIONS AND DISCOURSE AMONG FREE AGENTS WHO CONSTITUTE THE COMMUNITY TO BE SERVED BY THE GOVERNMENT.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • THE CIVIC ORDER MUST NOT FORGET ITS DUTY TO CITIZENS • THE CIVIC ORDER PROTECTS AND PROMOTES THE INTEGRITY, DIGNITY, AND SELF RESPECT OF ITS MEMBERS IN THEIR CAPACITY AS CITIZENS AND MUST AVOID ALL MEASURES, OPPRESIVE AND OTHER, WHOSE TENDENCY IS TO TRANSFORM THE CITIZEN INTO A SUBJECT.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • PUBLIC SERVANTS SHALL REFRAIN FROM ABUSE OF OFFICE AND CORRUPTION AND SHALL EXHIBIT PERSONAL INTEGRITY • PUBLIC OFFICE IS NOT TO BE USED FOR PERSONAL GAIN OR FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE OR AS A PREROGATIVE MANIPULATED BY ARBITRARY PERSONAL DESIRE.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • SECURITY OF PERSONS, INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY AND OWNERSHIP OF PROPERTY ARE THE FOUNDATION FOR INDIVIDUAL JUSTICE • THE CIVIC ORDER SHALL PROVIDE FOR THE SECURITY OF LIFE, LIBERTY AND PROPERTY OF ITS CITIZENS IN ORDER TO INSURE DOMESTIC TRANQUILITY.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF BUSINESS • THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL IMPACT OF BUSINESS • BUSINESS BEHAVIOR • RESPECT FOR RULES • SUPPORT FOR MULILATERAL TRADE • RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT • AVOIDANCE OF ILLICIT OPERATIONS
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • JUSTICE SHALL BE PROVIDED • THE CIVIC ORDER SHALL BE IMPARTIAL AMONG CITIZENS WITHOUT REGARD TO CONDITION, ORIGIN, SEX OR OTHER FUNDAMENTAL, INHERENT ATTRIBUTES.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • GENERAL WELFARE MEANS IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING OF INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS • THE STATE SHALL NURTURE AND SUPPORT ALL THOSE INSTITUTIONS, MOST CONDUCIVE TO THE FREE SELF-DEVELOPMENT AND SELF REGARD OF THE INDIVIDUAL CITIZEN.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • TRANSPARENCY OF GOVERNMENT ENSURES ACCOUNTABITY • THE CIVIC ORDER SHALL NOT ACT WITH EXCESSIVE SECRECY OR PROVIDE ITS CITIZENS WITH INADEQUATE INFORMATION.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES • GLOBAL COOPERATION ADVANCES NATIONAL WELFARE • GOVERNMENTS SHOULD ESTABLISH BOTH DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH JUSTICE AND RESPECT FOR THE OBLIGATIONS ARISING FROM TREATIES AND OTHER SOURCES OF INTERNATIONAL LAW CAN BE MAINTAINED.
