  2. Project Locations

  3. Purpose of Meeting • Describe deficiencies of existing bridges • Explain new bridge designs • Construction expectations • Provide you with a chance to ask questions

  4. Description of Terms Used Beams (Superstructure) Bridge Rail Deck Abutment (Substructure)

  5. Project Background Traffic Data Bridge 20 Traffic Data Bridge 58

  6. EXISTING BRIDGE DEFICIENCIES Deficiencies • The granite slabs of bridge 20 are in fair condition and have an unknown capacity • The deck and superstructure of bridge 58 are in poor condition • The bridges do not have adequate hydraulic capacity • The bridge rail is substandard on both bridges Inspection Report Information (Based on a scale of 9) Deck Rating 5 Fair (Br 20) 4 Poor (Br 58) Superstructure Rating 5 Fair (Br 20) 4 Poor (Br 58) Substructure Rating 5 Fair (Br 20) 5 Fair (Br 58)

  15. Accelerated Bridge Construction With Bridge Closure • Allow 24/7 construction during bridge closure • Contract incentives/dis-incentives to encourage contractor • Roaring Brook Road Closure Dates: June 12th – 26th • VT16/Glover Road Closure Dates: July 5th – Aug. 2nd • Public Outreach to provide advance notice for planning • Local share is cut in half (10% reduced to 5%) by allowing short term road closures

  16. Detour Route A-B Thru Route = 0.4 miles A-B Detour Route = 0.8 miles Added Miles = 0.4 miles End-End = 1.2 miles

  17. Accelerated Bridge Construction Examples • We have been using ABC methods to build bridges since 2007 on approximately 30 projects. • The following slides show an example of a past project with construction that will be similar to bridge 20 on VT16.

  18. Accelerated Bridge Construction Driven steel piles with precast concrete cap for abutment

  19. Accelerated Bridge Construction The first of three Precast Concrete Caps being placed

  20. Accelerated Bridge Construction Precast concrete Abutment in place and ready for Superstructure

  21. Conclusion and Summary • Full Bridge Replacement using ABC & short-term closure • Long term (80 year) fix • Two bridges combined and coordinated into one project • Improved hydraulic performance at both bridges • Minimal mobility impacts • Provides for reduced local share given road closure • Local contractor & labor used for project • Project bid price: $2,122,462 (both bridges combined) • Local Share is 5% of all costs
