  3. Main features Portfolio based Assessment based Each language skill or ‘unit’ assessed i.e. Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening Levels 1 – 4 in Languages available schools mainly 1 & 2

  4. Achievable No exam Small, manageable verified assessments Feedback and revisit assessments Use reference materials e.g. portfolios, notes, dictionaries, reference sheets etc Simulating the business world!

  5. Flexible Teachers decide when to do assessments Pupils do not have to do all four units Can do different levels in different years Can mix levels in different skills (units)

  11. What is an NVQ worth? QCA approved qualification Value of units for performance tables: Level 1 = 7 points per skill (unit) Level 2 = 12.3 points per skill (unit)

  12. What do the units add up to? Level 1: 4 units x 7 points = 28 Level 2: 4 units x 12 points = 49.2 or: Level 1 writing 1 x 7 points + Level 2 speaking, reading, listening + 3 x 12.3 points Total = 43.9
