  3. 1) The Crown Of Christ- Matt 27:27-31 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium & gathered the whole garrison around Him. 28 And they stripped Him & put a scarlet robe on Him.

  4. 1) The Crown Of Christ- Matt 27:27-31 29 When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, & a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him & mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

  5. 1) The Crown Of Christ- Matt 27:27-31 30 Then they spat on Him, & took the reed & struck Him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, & led Him away to be crucified.

  6. 1) The Crown Of Christ- Matt 27:27-31 The crown is a symbol of royalty & kingship. While they mocked Him in fake worship, worship is exactly what Jesus deserved because He is a King.

  7. Jesus became the “King of Sin”… Gen 3 17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, & have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': …

  8. Jesus became the “King of Sin”… Gen 3 17… "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. 18 Both thorns & thistles it shall bring forth for you, & you shall eat the herb of the field.

  9. Jesus became the “King of Sin”… Part of the result of sin is the thorns & Jesus takes the thorns on as a crown- becoming the “King of Sin”, taking sin upon Himself.

  10. …so that He could crown us with life 2 Cor 5 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

  11. …so that He could crown us with life 2 Tim 1 9… This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, …NIV

  12. …so that He could crown us with life 2 Tim 1 10 …who has destroyed death & has brought life & immortality to light through the gospel. NIV

  13. …so that He could crown us with life Jesus crowns us with a new life, new possibilities, that is eternal, and free of sin and death.

  14. Jesus became what He was not (sin), so that we could become what we could never be on our own (righteous). The crown reminds us that He took on what we could not bear & gave us the opportunity to receive what we could never achieve.

  15. Am I becoming what Jesus died for me to become?

  16. 2) The Cross Of Christ- Matt 27:32-38 35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots."

  17. 2) The Cross Of Christ- Matt 27:32-38 36 Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. 37 And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

  18. 2) The Cross Of Christ- Matt 27:32-38 38 Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left.

  19. 2) The Cross Of Christ- Matt 27:32-38 While the Cross is symbol of death, punishment & sacrifice, it’s also the symbol of hope & life for fallen mankind.

  20. Col 1 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 & through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. NIV

  21. Col 1 21 Once you were alienated from God & were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. NIV

  22. Col 1 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish & free from accusationNIV

  23. I Pet 2 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins & live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. NIV

  24. I Pet 2 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd & Overseer of your souls. NIV

  25. “The Cross is the only ladder tall enough to reach heaven, strong enough to carry the burden of sin and wide enough to reach every person…yet offered freely by the only person who could bear it.”
