Keep the rest of the packet. • Please pick up a textbook. • Drill: How did the War of 1812 impact the United States? • Objective: Students will describe the Monroe Doctrine in order to explain its impact on United States foreign policy. • Homework: Finish “The First Five”

  2. Activity 1: James Monroe • You have 20 minutes to complete the reading activity. • Complete the Before, During, and After activities.

  3. Activity 2: Monroe Doctrine • Review the purpose and events leading up to the Monroe Doctrine. • Event 1: Spanish colonies in North and South America fought for and gained their independence from Spain. • You complete the next two events leading up to the issuing of the Monroe Doctrine

  4. Activity 3: The First Five • Use all of your notes and a textbook (if you wish) to complete the chart. • This is an open note quiz worth 25 points. • You have the remainder of the class period to begin the assignment. • This assignment will be collected at the beginning of next class. • Please ask questions if you are confused.
