  1. Off-grid Solar Thermal Applications in Industries RENERGY 2012 Abhishek Bhatewara, Director, Clique Solar 13th March 2012

  2. Table of Contents Need for Solar Thermal in Off-grid mode Applications of Solar Thermal in Industry ARUN Technology – Introduction & Key Features ARUN Installations and Case Studies Solar Thermal - Economics

  3. Crude Oil caters to one fourth of India’s primary energy

  4. India imports 80% of its oil consumption

  5. Why Solar Thermal in off-grid mode? 15-20% of this oil is used in industries in thermal form at temperatures below 300°C 30% of this requirement can be met through solar concentrators This is 6-7% of our oil imports saved • Reducing Forex burden • Imparting energy security Results in reduction of emission of Carbon dioxide as well as other pollutants

  6. Solar Thermal Applications (Off-Grid)

  7. ARUN® Solar Concentrator – at a glance Output per day, on a clear sunny day

  8. ARUN® Technology – Automatic 2-axes tracking system Aperture areas always faces the sun DNI is captured in full (no cosine loss)

  9. ARUN® - Key Features Small Footprint Area & Retrofits: The small footprint area of ARUN® dish (3m x 3m per dish) enables it to be mounted at locations which have space limitations. It can also be erected on rooftops of existing buildings.  Performance Guarantee: Clique Solar guarantees the performance characteristics of ARUN® dish. Highest Temperature & Pressure Delivery: ARUN® can operate up to 400°C (oil) and 25 bar (steam). Government Subsidy: MNRE provides support by way of capital subsidy or soft loans for every ARUN® installation.

  10. ARUN® - Key Features Non-Solar Hours Operations: ARUN® dish can be augmented with a heat energy storage facility for operation in non‐solar hours. IBR Approval: ARUN® is the first IBR approved Solar Boiler in India. High Wind Bearing Capacity: ARUN® dish is designed to operate in wind speeds up to 10 m/s and it can survive in wind speeds up to 45 m/s. High Net Energy Gain: The Net Energy Gain (i.e. Energy gained from energy source – Energy expended in harvesting the energy source) of ARUN® dish is amongst the highest in the solar manufacturing industry.

  18. Investment in Solar Thermal • Attractive investment economics • Simple Equity payback in less than 2 years • Accelerated Depreciation at 80% of residual asset value • Subsidy of Rs. 10L per dish • Sector specific economic indicators • Cost per kcal of energy delivered over the lifetime • Energy gain ratio (25 to 30) • Foot-print area (3m x 3m including integration) • Need to view this as an infrastructure investment – life is 25-30 years+
