  2. What is the Preterit Tense? The preterit tense is one of two past tenses in the Spanish language. It functions as the suffix –ed does for most English verbs.

  5. Let’s Get Started! Using the following sentence to get you started, try to conjugate the regular –ar verb planchar in the past, or preterit, tense. I ironed the shirt.

  6. Take it step by step… Ask yourself these questions 1) What verb am I conjugating? In this case the verb is planchar, meaning to iron. 2)What form does the verb need to be in? Here you are using the yo form. 3) What kind of verb is it? -ar, -er, or –ir? Planchar is an –ar verb so you will use the –ar ending.
