  2. Bible Survey - Ezekiel Title: Hebrew – laqe’z>x,y> Greek – Iezekihl Latin – Ezechiel

  3. Bible Survey - Ezekiel Author: Ezekiel, like Jeremiah, was a priest as well as a prophet and identifies himself as the author of this book in 1:3 and 24:24. Ezekiel’s ministry was to the exiles in Babylon.

  4. Bible Survey - Ezekiel Date of Writing: 592-570 BC

  5. Bible Survey - Ezekiel Theme: Judgment and Restoration

  6. Bible Survey - Ezekiel Purpose of Writing: One of the major issues which Ezekiel addresses is the exiles’ stubborn belief that God would quickly return them to Israel and restore the city of Jerusalem within their lifetimes. Ezekiel 36:24-27 For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:33-35 Thus says the Lord GOD, "On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places will be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land will be cultivated instead of being a desolation in the sight of everyone who passes by.

  7. Bible Survey - Ezekiel Christ in Ezekiel: • The Throne of God • The Cedar Sprig • The Temple

  8. Bible Survey - Ezekiel The Throne of God: • Carried by “humanish” beings • Goes wherever the Spirit directs • Borne on wheels • Crystal platform • Bears the actual throne

  9. Bible Survey – Ezekiel The Throne of God: Ezekiel 1:26 Now above the expanse that was over their heads there was something resembling a throne, like lapis lazuli in appearance; and on that which resembled a throne, high up, was a figure with the appearance of a man.

  10. Bible Survey - Ezekiel The Cedar Sprig: Ezekiel 17:22-24 Thus says the Lord GOD, "I will also take a sprig from the lofty top of the cedar and set it out; I will pluck from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 23 On the high mountain of Israel I will plant it, that it may bring forth boughs and bear fruit and become a stately cedar. And birds of every kind will nest under it; they will nest in the shade of its branches.

  11. Bible Survey - Ezekiel The Cedar Tree: Matthew 13:31-32 He presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; 32 and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that THE BIRDS OF THE AIR come and NEST IN ITS BRANCHES."

  12. Bible Survey - Ezekiel The Temple: John 2:19-21 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews then said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" But He was speaking of the temple of His body.

  13. Bible Survey - Ezekiel Place in the Canon: Ezekiel serves the same function as Jeremiah: A reminder of judgment, a call to repentance and a hope in future restoration. Ezekiel simply ministered this message to the exiles, while Jeremiah ministered it to those still in Jerusalem.
