The Peninsula Post December 2011
From the President’s desk: December marks completion of half the journey set to serve the club and community in full earnest. It has been very satisfying and self-fulfulling. We saw an active discussion in the 2nd Club Assembly. With the continous support of all the members, and with a dynamic team with positive attitude, we hope to forge ahead with renewed optimism. We started the month with Shri Manaklal Agarwal using signature reading to read minds of members. A very lively meeting. Renowned religious philosopher & Jain Guru PujyashriChitrabhanu gave us “SukhaurShantikeUpay”. Mrs. ChitraPalekar spoke on the sensitive topic “Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites (LGBT)” and highlighted the need to be sensitive to this community. We had the opportunity to co-host and join visit of RIP KalyanBanerjee to Jawahar where various clubs are carrying out projects. The District Christmas Eve-cum-New Year Party on 24-Dec-11 saw participation of 66 members from our club. Totally 250 members across 7 clubs enjoyed the non-stop entertainment including music, exotic dances, food, surprise gifts with high spirits. It gave high visibility to our club. Our club conducted two “Skin Donation Awareness Camps” at G.D.Somani Memorial School, Cuffe Parade and ManavMandir School, Walkeshwar. We co-hosted RYPEN to enrich children of Aryan School, Opera House on various musical instruments which they could experiment with. We also donated to “Friends of Tribal Society” to support a school for a year in tribal areas.
“Signature – Mirror of your Mind”01-Dec-11 • Shri Manaklal Agarwal gave live examples of how signature reflects personality, company visiting card speaks of the company, how changes in signature can change personality. The meeting was well attended & highly appreciated

2nd Club Assembly 15-Dec-11 Various avenue Director Chairs reported on events and plans in their area of service. There was lively discussion on various topics. RIP KalyanBanerjee visit to Jawahar (22-Dec-11) • Our club co-hosted the “KalyanBanerjee visit to Jawahar” along with RC Mumbai South. • Showcased various projects by various clubs in Jawahar in area of Solar Lighting, Rural development,etc. We also assisted in arranging food from ISKON, Wada for all invitees.
“District Christmas Eve-cum-New Year Party”: 24-Dec-11: • Members enjoyed unprecedented fellowship with dinner, dance and lucky draw prizes.
“Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites (LGBT)”: 29-Dec-11: • Mrs. ChitraPalekar, spoke on this sexually sensitive topic, cleared lot of “myths” and highlighted the need for legislative support for them. She brought out emotions on this topic.
Community Service (Medical): • Our club organized ‘Skin Donation Awareness Camps” at G.D.Somani Memorial School, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai 400005 and at ManavMandir School, Walkeshwar Road, Mumbai 400006 on 08-Dec-11 for over 500 students of Class VIII,IX & X. The concept of Skin Donation was an eye opener for almost everybody. More such camps are planned in future. • Our Club President’s mother expired on 25th December 2011. She donated both her eyes and also donated her skin to the National Burns Centre, Airoli Skin Bank.
Community Service (Non-Medical): • Our club donated Rs. 16,000 to sponsor 1 school for 1 year under the “Friends of Tribal Society” scheme of EkalVidyalaya. Our club is associated with this organization since last few years for tribal development.
New Generation Service: • Our club recognized the achievements of Vivek Zanwar s/o Rtn Vijay Zanwar for achieving the feat of trekking to the Base Camp of Himalayas and for achieving certificate of training for “scuba diving” at Andaman Islands by covering in the Peninsula Post and awarding recognition certificate. • 03-Dec-11: Our club co-hosted the RYPEN at Aryan School, Opera House, Mumbai 400004 with RC Bombay Hanging Gardens. Children were exposed to different musical instruments and were given opportunity to actually try out these instruments. They were encouraged to take up further courses on these musical instruments to be sponsored by the lead host club.
