SBS transition survey key points that led to Flying Start • Student responses indicated they wanted: • a longer period of induction • enhanced support for university IT systems and awareness of wider support systems (counselling, education & guidance) • more information on what academics expect from students • opportunities to meet 1:1 with academic staff to discuss issues • mentoring opportunities

Flying Start Academic Programme • 8 timetabled seminars throughout the 1stsemester to orientate new students to the academic expectations of The Business School • Themes • Orientation and getting to know your group, IT systems, PDP and academic skills, reading, writing and marking schemes, the university experience • Supported by 40 academic staff, 35-40 final year students and professional services staff • Skills based teaching module • Enhanced affinity, course community and retention
