  2. The Saint • My saints name is St. Elizabeth of Hungary • I chose her because I thought she looked fun to research about. • I learned alot while researching her. • I hope you will learn about my saint as well. • She Build lots of hospitals for the sick. • St. Elizabeth was Canonized in 1235

  3. Her Life • They say her life went like this child, princess, mother, queen, widow, exile and one of the most pious women to ever live. • She was the daughter of King Andrew 2d of Hungary and Gertrude. • St Elizabeth grew up in a religious family. • She intelligent, good willed and devoted to god.

Her Life • Her parents ruled in 1205-1235. • She lived most her life in Germany. • She got into arranged marriages twice. • Both men were from the Thuringia family. • These men were brothers but one died, so she had to marry the other. • She was married at age of 14 to Ludwig the 6th. • Ludwig also dedicated his life to god. • She became a widow at the age of 20. • She had three children.

Interesting Information • She is born in Hungary, pressburg July 7 1207 • Died in Marburg hessie in November 17, 1231 at age 24 • Elizabeth is called the patron of hungry. • Her day is Good Friday. • People would bring sick to her grave after she died because the miracle of healing was said to be performed there. • The fact that in 1221 the followers of St. Francis of Assisi made their first permanent settlement in Germany was one of great importance in the later career of St. Elizabeth

Her Children • Her Eldest was Herman the 2d • He lived for 19 year, because he died young. • (1222-1241) • Her Second child was Sophia. • Sophia married Henry the 2d and lived for 60 years • (1224-1284) • Her third child was Gertrude. • She was named after Elizabeth’s mother. • Gertrude was born 7 weeks after Ludwig died. • Gertrude lived to the age 70 the longest out of all her siblings. • (1227-1297)

  7. Signs • St. Elizabeth is represented as a princess giving alms to the poor • Or holding roses in her lap. • In the later case she is painted either alone or with her husband • She was the Patronage saint of Charity.

  8. Feast Day • Feast day November 17 because when she died and Good Friday because that’s when she found refuge from her in-laws.

  9. Meaning of Signs • legend why roses: other saints as well met her unexpectedly as she went secretly on an errand of mercy, and, the bread she was trying to conceal was suddenly turned into roses. • Why princess giving alms because St. Elizabeth is a princess and she gives alms to the poor.
