Tuition Fees 2012/13 National Assembly for Wales Recommends: Basic tuition fees of £4,000 p.a. in Wales UK Government recommends: Basic tuition fees of £6,000 p.a. in England Maximum tuition fees that can be charged is £9,000p.a
How will I pay my tuition fees? • Tuition fee loans are available to all eligible students • Covers whole of the tuition fee • Paid directly to the university • Students repays after they have graduated
The New Tuition Fee Grant • Welsh domicile • Liable for the first £3,465 • Fees over £3,465 will be covered by the Welsh Assembly Government • Can study anywhere in the UK • Not means tested • Not repayable
Grants for living costs Grant paid in 3 instalments
Maintenance Loan Maximum loan available for Welsh domicile students - £4,745 (Living away from home rate) Maximum Loan available for English domicile students - £5,500 (Living away from home rate) The amount of loan you receive will be dependant on the level of grant you receive Loan paid in 3 instalments
Repaying your student Loan • Tuition fee & maintenance loan repaid together • Repayments are income contingent • Interest is linked to inflation plus 3% • Loan written off after 30 years (Wales - £1500 written off maintenance loan debt at repayment) Examples of repayment amounts
Additional funding Non Income assessed - Disabled Students’ Allowances to help with extra costs of studying related to disability or dyslexia Income assessed - Allowances if you have children Child Care Allowance Adult Dependants Grant Awards are in a form of a grant & do not have to be re-paid
