Merger Overview • Initial talks began in June 2018, completed in January or 2019 • Wanted to make sure we have everything in place before announcing to the public • The process was slow and deliberate, involving members of both Boards and Executives • In general discussions, we realized both orgs were dedicated to creating a strong program that could focus on the entire hockey pathway from 8U through Junior

  5. Year in Review The 2018-19 season was extremely strong for both RYHA and Eagles organizations. The combined organizations were champions as follows: CHL – 4 combined Championships CHL – 2 combined Finalists CAHA State – 5 combined Championships including Girls EJEPL – 2 combined Championships Districts – 1 Championship – Girls 19U Nationals – 6 combined teams competing at Nationals from the affiliate, including 14U Girls and 19U Girls Other Tournaments – 26 combined Championships Other Tournaments – 10 combined Finalists

Year in Review Our teams gave countless hours of their time to community service and volunteering for numerous local organizations and charities as well as hurricane relief efforts, thank you to the players, coaches, managers and parents for organizing these events! ALL teams will be required to participate for 2019-20

Association Overview • Merged program will now be Carolina Junior Hurricanes • 501c3 Not for Profit, founded in 1987 – entering our 1st season as the Carolina Junior Hurricanes • Volunteer Board of Directors supported by paid staff • Carolina Hurricanes sponsorship in 2007 • Tier I AAA status in 2007 • Last season 600+ players across 41 teams combined • Programs - Tier II A through Tier I AAA - 8 through 18U • Player Development at the core of the program • Partnerships with Polar Hurricanes House League Program

Play Up Policy - Boys • Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget first year players may be asked to try out for Major teams at Tier I AAA – This will be initiated by the evaluation committee • No second year players at any level will be allowed to play up to the next age level except 16U to 18U • 8U players are NOT eligible to try out for Squirt programs per CAHA rules

Tryouts • Tryout based team selection • Tier I AAA – 11U/12U/13U/14U//16U – May 3-5 • Tier I AAA – 15U – Apr 30, May 1, May 4 • Tier II AA/A– 10U/12U/14U/16U/18U – May 17 – 19 • Girls 10U,12U,- June 1 • 14U, 16U, 19U – May 11 • Factory Ice House, RCI, Iceplex • Teams selected by Selection Committees - include AAA coach, AA coach, 2-3 non affiliated evaluators • All selection meetings will be overseen by Executive Hockey Directors • Specific tryout processes will be posted as we get closer to the tryout dates

  20. Tryout Fees • AAA Tryout Fees - $135, $150 after April 26th • AA/A Tryout Fees - $135, $150 after May 10th • Girls Tryout Fees - $75, $100 after May 4 for 14U/16U/19U Girls • Girls Tryout Fees - $75, $100 after May 25 for 10U/12U Girls

  21. Coaching Philosophy • Provide the opportunities for everyone to play in every situation. • Focus on developing all players. Putting players in the appropriate situations to succeed. • Playing time is earned. • Every day is a new game. You can redeem yourself with the appropriate effort and commitment. • Be consistent in teaching, praising and disciplining players. • Conduct ourselves in way that is consistent with our core values (hard work, commitment, respect, …)

  23. 2019 - 2020 Program • Continuation of player development at 10U and 12U and will continue to be weekly • Continuation of sibling discount and full payment discount • Continuation of payment plan and availability of financial aid • Continuation of Junior Hurricanes Boys, Girls and Culotta Scholarships • Continuation of partnership with Raleigh Ortho for baseline testing • Continuation of partnership with PHHL to lead 8U Select Program and Player Development • Program fees and budget being finalized, no significant changes from prior year • Continuation of partnership with Marriott Hotels

  24. 2019 - 2020 8U “Super 8” Partner with PHHL to provide an enhanced experience for 8U Advanced players • Junior Hurricanes will run 8U Select Program called the “Super 8” • PHHL runs fall league evaluations with help of Junior Hurricanes to aid in determining advanced division. • Evaluations will select Advanced teams that practice and play with PHHL, BUT players can choose additional SELECT Program. • Select Program will have one Player Development session weekly that also incorporates off ice conditioning. Session will be run by Junior Hurricanes coaches centrally at the IcePlex. • Junior Hurricanes 8U teams will attend 2-3 Select Jamborees/tournaments all within the affiliate or adjacent affiliates (e.g. Raleigh, Charlotte, Charleston, DC, York) • Ryan Dupraw will be the lead coach for Select Program Player Development • Players pay regular PHHL fee then additional fee TBD for Junior Hurricanes Select Program.  • PHHL continues to schedule/run all regular weekly practices and games for normal league play.

  47. Team Jerseys and Numbers • All players will be required to purchase new team jerseys as we are converting to the new style The Carolina Hurricanes now wear,. Cut and Sew style from Team Winwave. . Five Hole staff will attend all tryouts for players to be fitted. • After tryouts and team placement, we begin a process to keep/ change numbers. • Anyone in birth year who has a number no one else has maintains first right of refusal to keep it • If two players in a birth year/team that may conflict, then a set of “tiebreaker” rules apply: • Ask if either player would like to change • If both players want to keep the number, whichever player has the most cumulative Eagle or Hurricanes time with the number - time in other organizations with the # doesn’t count • coin flip between those two if same number of years • If a player “loses” his number, that player gets to select first from available #s • No “new numbers” get selected until existing players get assigned • Jerseys will be ordered during registration at additional cost (Approx $165-$170 including Game Socks)

Team Gear and Apparel • All players will be required to have the following: • Red helmet and gloves (no particular brand is required) • Red pant shell, can use a shell from the previous year, or will need to be ordered directly through Five Hole Sports at an additional cost ($40) • Junior Hurricane bag, can use from last year, or will need to ordered during the registration at additional cost (Approx $80) • Practice jerseys and socks are included in the team fee and are ordered in bulk • Warm-up jackets and pants are required and will be ordered directly through Five Hole Sports • Workout shorts, and T-shirts are available directly through Five Hole Sports • Five Hole will provide a direct link for all Five Hole items lflagg@carolinajuniorhurricanes.com

Five Hole Sports Partnership • Five Hole Sports will continue to be the official partner for all game and practice jerseys, socks, shells, bags, warm-ups and apparel • Stock extra Jr. Hurricanes shells, socks and apparel at Raleigh Five Hole locations to assist with sizing issues • 10% Discount Card for ALL Junior Hurricanes members given out at tryouts • 20% Discount Card for all Coaches and BOD Members • Discounted skate sharpening - $2.00 off every day during the season • Exclusive 1 hour session during Player and Goalie Demo Days for all Jr. Hurricanes members – we will see all the new equipment 1st. • Sat July 20th, 2019 – Bauer and CCM Demo Day
