OJP Recovery Act Programs • Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) • Formula program that supports a broad range of criminal justice activities • Victim Compensation Grant Program • Formula program that supports states’ efforts to compensate crime victims • Victim Assistance Grant Program • Formula program that supports state services to crime victims
OJP Recovery Act Programs • Edward Byrne Competitive Grant Program • Competitive program that supports initiatives in the following categories: evidence-based approaches; neighborhood-based probation and parole; mortgage fraud; hiring civilian law enforcement; forensics; victim assistance; and problem-solving courts • Local Youth Mentoring Program • Competitive program that supports youth mentoring programs • Correctional Facilities on Tribal Lands Program • Competitive program for construction or renovation of correctional facilities on tribal lands • Assistance to Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime & Drugs • Competitive program that supports assistance to law enforcement in rural states and rural areas to prevent and combat crime, especially drug-related crime
Recovery Act Justice Assistance Grant • Each state’s Recovery Act JAG allocation was calculated using a formula based on population and crime statistics • Total allocation for the State of Alaska = $9,611,403 • Of the total allocation: • $3,790,385 will be awarded to units of local government as direct grants from BJA • $5,821,018 will be awarded to the State Administering Agency (SAA) • Of this amount, $1,392,116 is expected to be passed through to units of local government in the form of subgrants
