  1. 1 John 2:15-17 Accessing the Almighty Denying the World

  2. 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

  3. But…. Can it be done? John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing

  4. Why ask us what we…. cannot do in our own power? Romans 8:7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.

  5. Why are there Commandments at all? If we are unable in our own power to obey ….. there must be a reason In fact…. there are two reasons, and …. …… two outcomes

  6. Outcome #1: We Obey Hebrews 13:20-21 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

  7. John 3:27 John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven.”

  8. Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

  10. The Steps of Grace Grace Step #1 God draws you toward His Word Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.

The Steps of Grace Grace Step #2 God the Holy Spirit Illuminates the Truth of the Word 1 Corinthians 2:12,13 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

  12. The Steps of Grace Grace Step #3 God Works within us the desire to obey Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

  13. The Result We obey, and….. We are blessed, and….. The sheep are blessed Praise God!

  14. Why are there Biblical Commandments? As a means for God to work obedience in us, for…. Our benefit The benefit of others The declaration of His Glory

  15. Outcome #2: We Do Not Obey God draws you toward His Word God the Holy Spirit Illuminates the Truth of the Word God does NOT instill in you the desire to obey, rather…. He allows your sinful rebellion, and…. we do not obey

  16. Outcome #2: We Do Not ObeySecond Scenario God does not draw you toward His Word He allows your sinful rebellion, and…. we do not obey

  17. The Result We do not obey, yet….. We are blessed, because….. We are humbled We are allowed to stumble so that we are more aware of our dependency upon God We appreciate God’s grace all the more when He restores us Praise God!

  18. Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose

  19. In all this we are…. Accessing the Almighty The LIVING WORD is in action within our hearts

  20. What Does the Living Word Have to Say? 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

  21. Why should we not Love the World? It is a commandment…. All commandments are for our benefit, therefore…. Not loving the world will be…. better for us

  22. Consider…. If we obey, we will be blessed with…. intimacy, now, with God and with others If we do not obey, we will be blessed with…. humility, trial and struggle Which would you prefer?

  23. So, how do we Pray? Lord, please …. Remove from me the motives of the world… the desire to serve self only the desire for comfort above service the desire for wealth, status, and power

  24. In Prayer Praise God for the privilege of Accessing the Almighty Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
