  2. New Regulations for 2013 Specifically, the new regulations during the acclimatization period that effect the state’s 342 programs and 21,200 athletes addresses the following areas • (1) There shall be no more than one practice per day. • (2) A practice is defined as a period of time in which a student participates in physical activity. • (3) A practice cannot exceed three (3) hours in length. Warm-up, stretching, speed and agility rules.

  3. Heat Illness • Spectrum of disorders caused by environmental heat exposure • Symptoms include fainting, cramps, and heat exhaustion. • The worst is Heat Stroke. This can cause long lasting side effects and causes many deaths each year.

  4. No Two-a-Days • Heat Stroke • Child Safety • Applies to all programs

  5. For Two-A-Days • Tradition • Hasn’t been an issue in Iowa yet • Builds character, gets kids ready for the real world • Will programs actually obey the new rule?

  6. Mediation • Should have kept two-a-day practices, just made stricter laws on water breaks and length of practices • Should have made stricter punishments and better ways to regulate the rules already in place
