The attack was launched upon a 30 kilometre front, from north of the Somme river between Arras and Albert, • The war ran from 1 July until 18 November, at which point it was called off.
British forces comprised by far the bulk of the offensive forces, • There was a loss of 58,000 British troops • It is implicated to have been one of the bloodiest military operations ever on recorded.
