  4. Adaptations: Estivation • Estivation: similar to hibernation, but some animals use it in hotweather

  5. Adaptations: Mimicry • Mimicry: when an animal copiesor “mimics” something that other animals are attracted to or are afraid of = protection

  6. Adatations: Camouflage • Camouflage: ability of an organism to blend into its environment Types: 1. Cryptic coloration: having a colorthat is the same as their environment 2. Warning coloration: using color to warnaway other animals Yellowjacket Wasp African Honeybee

  7. Adaptations: Territoriality • Territoriality: defending territory against others within the same species • Includes “pecking order” and the “alpha & omega” in an animal pack

  8. Adaptations: Courtship • Courtship: usually involves the males posturing or showing offto the female
