CMAQ Modeling Plans for BRAVO Naresh Kumar Electric Power Research Institute
EPRI Version of CMAQ • Sectional approach for particle size distribution • ISORROPIA to simulate the gas/particle partitioning of inorganic chemical species • Odum et al. approach for secondary organic aerosol formation • CMU Cloud module with detailed aqueous chemistry
Modeling Plans • Two episodes of 7-10 days duration • October 7-17, 1999 • August 15-25, 1999 • Modeling domain consistent with MM5 domain - 12 km and 4 km nested domain • Gridded emissions inventory for NOx, VOC (speciated for CB-IV), CO, SO2, NH3, PM (fine and coarse, speciated)
Base Case Modeling • Boundary Conditions • IMPROVE data • Emissions • Mexican emissions may need to be adjusted • Model Evaluation • compare model predictions against observations for gases and PM species
Emission Sensitivity Simulations • Run simulations with zeroing of emissions from different sources/source areas • Assess simulated impact of different sources on fine PM concentrations at Big Bend • Run these simulations for both episodes
Timeline • First episode MM5 run March 2001 • Emissions Modeling (SMOKE) May 31, 2001 (?) • First episode base case August 2001 • First episode emissions sensitivity November 2001 • Second episode MM5 run July 2001 (?) • Second episode base case October 2001 • Second episode emissions sensitivity February 2002
