  2. What connections might we draw between childhood Harvey and adult Harvey? What is your impression of the character? As a child… • His mother teaches him how to shoplift • His mother teaches him to rob memorials to roadside fatalities (often taking trinkets and charms) • His parents have an unstable relationship and his father is abusive • He thinks that ‘life should be lived not as a child or a woman’ as they are the ‘two worst things to be’ As an adult… - He likes to build dolls houses • He is a sexual predator, rapist and serial killer • He lives on a typical, suburban, family orientated street • He has a professional, stable job • His victims are all women and usually young • He kills Susie Salmon, who comes from a loving, suburban home

You may wish to re-read page 50 to remind yourself of his feelings directly after the act. When you have done this, add to the George Harvey mindmap in your booklet.
