  1. ENG 250Mediation Essay By Osama Al Masri

  2. Overview • Intermarriage among different races has lately become an increasingly common trend all over the world. In the United States, for example, compared to 6.7% of all marriages being interracial in 1980, the percentage had doubled to 15% in 2010 (Wang 1). However, with this increase, different people still hold different opinions regarding the acceptability of mixed-race marriage in society. • Is Interracial marriage harmful to societies?

  3. Opposition • Interracial marriage can lead to race extinction • The divorce rate is high • It can affect children

  4. Advocate • Interracial marriage has a multicultural benefit • Is a way to fight racism • Divorce can happen to any couple

  5. Mediation • Open communication is important • Divorce , why? • Educating the community, what matter is the person not the race

  6. Questions?

  7. Overall Comments: Your Response Team, below, raised one of the main problems I had, namely, the vagueness which damages much of this. For instance, on the slide “Opposition” you mention “race extinction” — but what does this mean, really? Could you provide an example of a race that has died out through intermarriage? The “opposition” and “advocates” slide did balance three points apiece, effectively, and out loud (though not on the slides) you elaborated well on the how intermarriage “could affect children.” But even that terminology is dangerously general, as were the words “Open Communication” on your Mediation slide. Surely communication matters in every marriage. B- or 82.
