  4. Overall Aim • To reduce health inequalities between Athersley and the rest of Barnsley • Improve access • Build social capital • Improve aspiration • Improve the environment

Actions • Access • Social marketing research and campaign to understand and promote use of new cycling / walking facilities, including parental concerns about crime and safety • Bike-ability training for adults (£70,000) • Local Bike It programme (£100,000) – BMBC, Sustrans, Local Community Groups, Schools

  6. Actions • Aspiration Support local community groups, e.g. Motormouth and Romero to increase skills and tackle drug, alcohol and tobacco use Local Politicians Local Community Groups Health Service £250,000

Actions • Environment • Increase CCTV on new walking and cycling routes – BMBC, Police • Increase cycle paths provision – BMBC, Sustrans • Engage unemployed young people in improving walking and cycling routes – BMBC, Sustrans • Workers Minibus: £182,000 • Works to wheels scheme • Travel Planning advice - £100,000 (SYPTE, JobCentre Plus) • Cycle Loan Scheme for newly unemployed

  8. Actions • Social Capital • Develop website for Athersley • Social Marketing campaign to understand perceptions of Athersley and how to improve its standing • Engaging professionals in Civil Society - £25,000 – project underway – funded by national government
