Smoking Cessation and Brief Intervention for Young People Howardian Centre ‘Extended Curriculum Programme
We work with KS4 young people that have been permanently excluded from mainstream Education. • At Howardian we seek to offer help to educate young people to understand ALL the issues that affect them and their communities, especially tobacco / smoking and its affect on their health. • Smoking is the world’s largest cause of preventable illnesses and death, currently the biggest issue we face on a daily basis at Howardian. • As youth workers or professionals that support young people, we are ideally placed to discuss and tackle issues around smoking with young people in a non judgemental way. We have the opportunity to Educate, Advise and Inform young people, so they can make decisions that affect their lives and future. • (Remember, you might be the first adult to raise the smoking issue directly with a young person and make them think seriously about how it will affect their health). • As Youth workers we try to bridge the gap between friends and adults or authority figures, so this makes for an ideal role model and therefore the perfect setting to address the issues of smoking addiction.
