Purpose • Determine a graphical and mathematical relationship between the units cm3 and mL. • The independent variable is centimeters cubed (cm3) and the dependent variable is the milliliters (mL).
Hypothesis Predict what you think will be the end result of this experiment: • Vcm3 is equal to VmL • Vcm3 is less than VmL • Vcm3 is more than VmL

LAB VOCAB 1) cm3= volume units for a solid object, has 3 dimensions 2) mL= volume units for a fluid (gas or liquid) 3) Graduated cylinder= tool for measuring the volume of liquids 4) Meniscus= a curved line created at the top of a liquid when measuring with a graduated cylinder 5) Equation; Volume= Area * Height
PROCEDURE 1. Gather materials. Write the type of container you have here and the equation for how to find its area; ______________________________________ 2. Measure the length and width of the container or its radius and find its area. 3. Record the area in the data table. 4. Put 1 cm of water into the container. 5.Pour the 1 cm of water from the container into the graduated cylinder and record the volume in mL.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 using the following heights of water: 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, and 5 cm. 7. Calculate the Vcm3 for water by multiplying the area times the height. Record it in the appropriate data column. 8. Graph the data. What goes on the graph?
