Supervision • Supervision is a process in which two or more people participate in a joint effort to: • Promote • Establish • Maintain • Elevate • The supervisor is responsible for: • Setting • Encouraging • Evaluating Work performed by the supervisee
Quality Supervision • Amutual undertaking that: • Fosters growth and development • Ensures appropriate training and potential • Encourages creativity and innovation • Provides guidance, support, encouragement and respect • Promoting the goals of the individual and the facility
Service Competency Practice within your state’s guidelines: aota.org/Practitioners/Licensure/StateRegs.aspx • Direct –Supervisor: provides daily, direct contact • General- Scheduled: contact face – to – face, use alternate methods as needed • Indirect – Available: as needed and reviews service delivery, treatment plans and treatment outcomes
Stage One/Entry Level • OT and OTA collaborate in practice area • OT completes evaluation • OTA and OT collaborate on results • OTA completes treatment from plan of care with direct supervision • Notes reviewed and co-signed by OT
Stage Two/Intermediate • OTA contributes to evaluation • Assigned assessments from OT • OTA and OT co-treat for periodic re-assessments • OTA provides treatments and receives Indirect supervision from OT • Notes Co-signed
Stage Three/Advanced • OTA completes assigned assessments • (ADL , vision, perceptual) • OTA reviews results with OT to establish plan of care • OTA and OT co–treat or exchange treatments/Re-assessments • Notes Co-signed
Stage Four/Competent Practitioner • OTA completes delegated assessments and treatments • General Supervision provided by OT • Collaborative team • Mutual respect and awareness
Stage Four Continued… • Notes co-signed in accordance with state and insurance guidelines • All reports reviewed by OT
