System Overview • Student Testing Interface • Installation based software used by students to take tests • Needs to be available on every computer that will be used to administer tests • Secure testing environment • Tool- and feature-rich interface • Local Caching Software (LCS) • Java-based component used to alleviate local bandwidth limitations and Internet connection interruptions • Required component • To be installed on one or more computers in a school or district J

System Requirements • Management Tools and Tutorials (Browser requirements): • Most popular browsers: Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome • Accept cookies for session tracking • PDF reader • Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or higher) • Sound card (or onboard sound) and headphones or speakers needed for audio tutorials • Display size of 800x600 or greater J
System Requirements • Local Caching Software – LCS • Operating System: • Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 • Mac OS 10.5 and 10.7 • Linux • Processor : 2 GHz or higher • Memory: 1 GB • Connectivity: Allow connections to the Internet using HTTP and HTTPS protocols on ports 80 and 443. • Capacity: 100 simultaneous test takers (max.) System Requirements • Student Testing Software – CA&L • Operating System: • Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 • Mac OS 10.5 and 10.7 • Processor : 1 GHz or higher • Memory: 256 MB, 512 MB recommended • Display: Monitors with a resolution of at least 800x600 • Connectivity: Able to connect to the Internet and the LCS through http/https J

Installation - LCS • Download Process Step 1: http://star.caltesting.org/management.html Step 2: Log into Management Tools T
Installation - LCS Step 3: Click the Downloads link Step 4: Click the LCS link T
Installation - LCS Step 5: Select the LCS download for the machine that will host the LCS T
Installation - LCS Step 6: Click Download LCS Now! T
Installation - LCS Step 7: Double click on the STAR_CBT_LCS icon For Windows: For Mac: T

Installation - LCS Step 9: Double click the STAR CBT LCS Manager icon. T
Configuration- LCS Step 1: Click on the LCS Port Configurations tab Step 2: Set the LCS Port Number to 8100 Step 3: Select an LCS IP address → Click Apply T
Configuration- LCS Step 4: Click on the LCS Status tab Step 5: Click on the Start LCS icon T
Configuration- LCS Step 6: Status should change to “LCS is currently running.” T
Troubleshoot Tests Step 7: Click Run Tests to verify connectivity T

Configuration- Testing Computers Step 1: Windows: Start Menu → All Programs → STAR CBT → Preferences Mac: Applications → STAR CBT → Preferences.app Step 2: Select the LCS tab → Check Enable LCS Step 3: Type in LCS IP address Step 4: Set the LCS Port Number to 8100 → Apply T
Troubleshoot Tests Step 5: Click Run Tests to verify connectivity T
LCS Monitoring Tool Step 1: LCS Manager → LCS Port Configuration tab → IP Address Step 2: Web browser → URL: http://LCS IP Address Here:8100 T
Readiness Check • Testing Computers: Practice Test J
Troubleshooting • Check to make sure the LCS is running via the LCS Manager. • Try accessing the LCS Monitoring Tool from a workstation running the testing software. • Try taking a practice test through the LCS and see if it is reflected in the LCS Monitoring Tool • Make sure that no one is testing through the LCS before stopping it, then restart the LCS and run through the above steps again. J
