Huh? Photoelectron Spectroscopy (PES)- is a procedure that shines radiation on a sample with enough energy to excite an atom to the point that an electron from ANY SHELL of the atom to forma positively charged ion.
So it is all about? • Ionization energy or how much energy it will take to remove an electron from the atom. • An atom with a larger nuclear charge (more protons more pull on the electrons) will have a high ionization energy or binding energy. • A PES can also identify elements based on the number of peaks and the ratio between the heights of the peaks.
