  1. Evaluating Algebraic Expressions, given values WP: Evaluate Algebraic Expressions

  2. To EVALUATE means to FIND THE VALUE OF THE EXPRESSION when the value of the variables are known. • FIRST – replace the variables with the known (given) value. • THEN – follow the Order of Operations.

  3. First – replace the variables with the given values. Use the Order of Operations to find your answer. REDUCE 1) Evaluate for j = 8 and k = 12

  4. 2) Evaluate for x =4, y = 4, z = 2 • First – replace the variables with the given values. • Use the Order of Operations to find your answer.

  5. 3) Evaluate for x = 3, y = 2 ½ , z = ½ • First – replace the variables with the given values. • Use the Order of Operations to find your answer.

  6. Word Problems: 4. The cost of a school banquet is $75 + 12n, where n is the number of people attending. What is the cost for 83 people? Formula Replace n Solve

  7. 5. An employee who receives a weekly salary of $200 and an 8% commission is paid according to the formula p = 0.08s + 200, where p represents the total amount earned weekly and s is the total weekly sales. Find the earnings for a week with $3818 total sales. Formula Replace s Solve

  8. 6. Imagine that you owned a T-shirt business. The cost of making the designs and buying the T-shirts is $325. In addition to these one time charges, the cost of printing each shirt is $1.75. The average cost per T-shirt for the business to manufacture x T-shirts is given by the following formula. Find the average cost per T-shirt when x is 100. Formula Replace x Solve
