State Testing will be April 15,16,17 Please have your child at school those days! • Spelling Words • upon, above, cover, apart, either, alike, awake, afraid, across, agree, ever, amount, ahead, alive, around, among, again, about, applause, appear • Phonics: Review • Accented and unaccented syllables • Vocab words: • Affordable, individually, clutter, visible, mentioned, beckoned, flustered, remark, presentation, effective What We’re Learning: Reading and Language: “Ramona Quimby Age 8” “Slam Dunk Water” Writing: Persuasion Trait: Organization Informational Speech Viewing Advertisements and commercials Homework: Attach a copy of your work and turn in Friday Complete at least two speller’s choice Complete at least two writer’s Bingo choices! Vocab Definitions: affordable- If you have enough money to buy something, that thing is affordable. individually- If you speak to your friends one at a time, you speak to them individually. clutter- If a place such as your desk or your room has clutter, it is messy and full of things you do not really need. visible- When something is visible, you can see it. mentioned- If you mentioned something, you talked about it briefly. beckoned- If you beckoned to someone, you used your hand to signal him or her to come to you. flustered- If something flustered you, it made you forget what you were saying or doing. remark- A remark is something that is said about something. presentation- If you describe or perform something in front of a group of people, you are putting on a presentation. effective- When you get the result you want, then your actions have been effective. Writing Assignment this week! A Persuasive Paragraph includes: Includes a topic sentence that states the writer’s opinion Provides reasons to support the writer’s opinion Often uses facts to convince the audience Concludes by somehow restating the opinion @ Rachel Thorp 2013
