An Elementary Reader A reflection of my life as a reader in my elementary years By Shelly Burnett
ChildhoodI spent a lot of time reading books independently as a young child. My sister and I loved reading together, too. I recall having a lot of books in our home. However, I don’t remember being read to by my parents.
First GradeMrs. Masten was my first grade teacher. I recall learning to read in first grade using the classic titles of Dick and Jane (and Spot, of course). www.etsy.com
Childhood FavoritesAs an elementary school aged child, I loved reading Dr. Seuss’ books. I owned almost every title as a young child. I would read them over and over for hours at a time.
School LibraryI attended Dubois Elementary School in Springfield, Illinois. I recall going to the library each week. Ms. Hixon was the librarian. She dressed in smart suits and read to my class each time we visited. I loved hearing her read aloud.
