  1. PPP: FoF Topic FoF-4 Designing the Manufacturing Workplace of the Future Challenges: Manufacturing knowledge and information is scattered across a plethora of information silos (‘walled gardens’), but central platforms to search and explore are not available Today’s machines gather an enormous amount of “big production data”, currently not evaluated in order to make manufacturing more successful Data & Information is not machine readable at all (i.e. the computer can not understand its semantics) and not interlinked (i.e. the ability to search and explore for patterns is limited) ICT systems adopted are neither successful in capturing manufacturing knowledge, nor do they support social interaction and learning on a larger scale Current ICT platforms are of limited attractiveness especially to young workers, because of antiquated user interfaces Human aspects are widely ignored, contributing to the unattractiveness of the manufacturing workplace especially for young people with a different mind-set Virtual Vehicle Contact person: E-mail: Phone: Research Center Mr. Stocker alexander.stocker@v2c2.at +43 316 873 9844

  2. PPP: FoF Topic FoF-4 Designing the Manufacturing Workplace of the Future Objectives: Enabling Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate manufacturing knowledge sharing and learning directly at the machine by e.g. using augmented reality technologies Designing self-learning systems: Develop “self-learning” and “self-explaining” workplaces by gathering, assessing and evaluating data from the machine and transfer this as a knowledge to the manufacturer Extracting patterns of (un)successful production: Mastering complexity of manufacturing information through advanced linking of information sources for indentifying patterns of (un)successful production Enhancing overall attractiveness of manufacturing: Applying Web 2.0 concepts (participation, co-creation, harnessing collective intelligence, ...) and mobile technologies to establish an open manufacturing culture with new modes of networked employees to employee communication Virtual Vehicle Contact person: E-mail: Phone: Research Center Mr. Stocker alexander.stocker@v2c2.at +43 316 873 9844

  3. PPP: FoF Topic FoF-4 Designing the Manufacturing Workplace of the Future Expected results: Demonstrate, how a combination of semantic and social approaches will reduce the time to identify existing manufacturing knowledge. Demonstrate, how assessing big production data will decrease scrap and increase quality of production. Demonstrate, how implementing modern collaboration tools and information sharing concepts will facilitate manufacturing work, Demonstrate, how young people will be empowered by learning and ad-hoc training at the machine and how concepts of the Web 2.0 enable a greater joy of use.
