  1. Eph. 1:3-14 Our Spiritual Blessings in Christ Forest Hills Bible Chapel 18 January 2009

  2. Some Background Observations Ephesians is written relatively late in Paul’s career, and as such it constitutes a sort of “capstone” of Paul’s epistles. The contents of Ephesians represents the ultimate outworking of the implications of Paul’s gospel. In Ephesians, the word “church” speaks not of local assemblies (as elsewhere in Paul’s epistles), but the universal people of God.

  3. Ephesians 1:3-14 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves

  4. Ephesians 1:3-14 7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

  5. Ephesians 1:3-14 11In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.

  6. Ephesians 1:3-14 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

  7. Amazing Grace • 1. God is worthy of our praise, for the blessing He has given us in Christ – v. 3. • 2. God chose us – (we didn’t choose Him!) –vv .4-6. • To be holy and blameless in His sight – v. 4 • He adopted us, so that we might praise His glorious grace – vv. 5-6 • 3. God has lavished his love and grace upon us – vv. 7-8 • 4. God has made known to us His will – vv. 9-10

  8. Amazing Grace • 5. We were chosen in Him (Christ) – vv. 11-14 • We were predestined according to His plan – v. 11 • In God’s eternal plan, “we” and “Christ” are inseparable – v. 11 • We were intended to live for the praise of His glory – v. 12. • We were sealed with “the Holy Spirit of promise” – Who is the guarantee of our redemption.

  9. Amazing Grace It is, indeed, as Charles H. Spurgeon said, “All of Grace.” God’s work in our lives is all of grace, from beginning to end!
