  2. What is bacterial vaginosis • It is the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria

  3. Women with BV may have an abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor. fish-like odor, especially after intercourse. Discharge, if present, is usually white or gray; it can be thin Women with BV may also have burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both. Most women with BV report no signs or symptoms at all. Symptoms

  4. Treatment • BV is treatable with antibiotics prescribed by a health care provider. Two different antibiotics are recommended as treatment for BV: metronidazole or clindamycin • Can sometimes clear up by itself • All pregnant women who have ever had a premature delivery or low birth weight baby should be considered for a BV examination, regardless of symptoms

Modes of transmission • It is not clear whether bacterial vaginosis is sexually transmitted, but it can be associated with other sexually transmitted diseases. • It can only be transmitted by women and it occurs as a result of sexual contact. • Vaginal douching is capable of creating a breeding ground for vaginal infections by upsetting the natural balance of the vaginal environment

  6. There is no real way to prevent this. There are ways to limited it as abstinent not having multiple sex partners and limiting sexual intercourse between women. Prevention
